Coastal New England Waterfront Vacation Home Re-Imagined

When our clients from Boston purchased their vacation home in Padanaram South Dartmouth, they called on us to help with updating and modernizing. Our team specializes in re-imagining a home to fit with the family’s lifestyle. It needed necessary updates to improve cohesion, flow and functionality. The home was very outdated & lacked that welcoming feel when you walked in. With so much potential, our primary goals were to open up the space for additional water views and add a second on-suite for family and guests.

Our first goal took some structural reinforcement and a full stairwell gut but the investment was well worth it! Gone is the old carpet, narrow stairwell and wall that separated the entry from the main area of the home. Now when you walk in, the space feels brighter, more open and you are instantly greeted with water views.

By removing the wall and door that separated the foyer, it helped open up the space creating better flow. We incorporated new oak treads, handrails, newel posts and black metal balusters to add a more modern feel to the staircase which has now become a main feature of the home.

A new 36” iron & wood milk glass globe fixture livens up and adds a touch of elegance to this newly updated space.

We maximized the storage under the stairs by eliminating the base heater and swapping out the cabinetry for larger drawers and doors that open up to a storage space for easily accessible items.

This once was a room with sun damaged floors, dark beams, and a non-working fireplace lacking the attention it deserved. Now with newly repaired and refinished red oak hardwood floors, we applied a Silvered Gray Stain by Duraseal and a Matte Polyurethane to tone them down. We removed the heavy stain on the decorative beams and painted all the trimwork White Dove by Benjamin Moore. New furnishings and a repaired gas fireplace give this sitting room a warm & welcoming feel.

For the children’s area, we repurposed the base cabinetry with a fresh coat of paint (Needlepoint Navy by Sherwin Williams to match the fireplace wall) and swapped out the old countertop for reclaimed wood to add character and warmth. Eliminating the upper shelving allowed the space to feel more open. The cabinetry below holds all the hardware for the TV, games, books & toys.

Our second goal was achieved by converting 2 closets into a full bath to create a second on-suite. It now holds a spacious shower with a built-in bench, walnut vanity, recessed medicine cabinet and radiant heated flooring.

All the Bedrooms got a fresh coat of paint, updated electric & refinished flooring. We swapped out all the old brass knobs & hinges on the doors to matte black and updated all the recessed lighting to LED.

The Planning Phase for this project took 12 weeks and the Construction Phase took 12 weeks as well. If you’re considering a large scale renovation, inquire about our Consultations.
